Turbine Video Encoder saves the encoded videos as several files: .html, .swf, .flv and .jpg files, which are saved in the same folder. It is sometimes useful to have the .swf and .flv files in a different folder - for example into a separate media/ folder, different than the folder where the .html file will be located.
This article applies in a similar way to playing video files generated by Turbine Video Engine SDK.

Solution

For this to happen we must change a few attributes inside the and tags that display the video in the .html file. This also applies to any other HTML file, for example dynamic HTML generated from ASP or PHP.

To do this we'll need to edit the HTML file as in the following steps, which assume the video is called video.swf (that is: originally saved as video.flv, video.html, etc.) and will be located in a folder named media:

Move all files, except the .html file into the new location inside the media/ folder.
Edit the .html file: inside the tag which displays the Flash player, locate the movie attribute of the tag:

And change it to the new path:

After this tag, add a base attribute which sets the base directory for the loaded media - take care to leave the final slash as in "media/":

Now we'll do the

HRESULT 0x800736B1

Abstract:

Symptoms

Running a .NET application with TVE SDK you get the following error message:

This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. However it's often possible to increase quality by changing some settings from the default values included in the base Presets.

Information

Better quality encoding can be obtained by changing a number of settings:

Increasing bitrate in video (the VideoBitRate property) and audio (Audio MP3BitRate or AudioADPCMBits properties) naturally increases quality. Or lower the video frame size (VideoWidth/Height property) and/or the frame rate (VideoFrameRate property): this will lower the amount of actual data compressed, allowing better quality for the same bitrate. In most cases source video quality might be overkill for web Flash video: for example lowering the frame rate from 30 FPS to 20 or the frame image to 75% original size will produce better video quality at the same bitrate without significant quality loss.

Using VBR2 encoding will usually produce better results (VideoMethod property). Or if bandwidth is not an issue, encoding at Constant Quality (KQ) with better quantizer settings will produce perfect results.

The period for intra frames (complete frames) might be too small, wasting bandwidth. This can be changed in the VideoIntraFramePeriod

Supported Video Files

Abstract:

Introduction

What kind of video files does TVE, TVU and TVE SDK support? If it doesn't play, you may be missing a codec. You can check which codec is missing by using AVIcodec a freeware software available here: http://avicodec.duby.info/

TVE, TVU and The SDK can also handle AVI formats with user installed codecs. The most common video formats supported are:

Windows Media (AVI, WMV, ASF, WMA, WAV, using any AVI/WM codecs like DIVX, XDIV, etc.);

QuickTime (MOV, QT, DV, AAC, AIF/AIFF, using any QuickTime codecs);

MPEG (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, MP3);

Mobile Phones (3GP, 3G2).

To learn how to maximize the number of video types TVE, TVU and the SDK can handle, please refer to the KB article linked in the "Related Articles" section below.

The information in this article applies to:

TVE SDK
Turbine Video Encoder

Turbine Video Upload

Encode DVD / VOB video to Flash Video

Abstract:

Introduction

Does our video software support DVD / VOB video as input? Fortunately, after converting the video to FLV, Turbine Video Uploader (TVU) allows to convert all videos to a desirable width while maintaining the aspect ratio.

Solution

TVU allows to set one of the video dimensions and leave the other dimension to change automatically, keeping the aspect ratio. This is accomplished by editing the config file and changing the values of width, height and relativeSize attributes.

For instance, the following config lines say that we want a maximum video width of 300 pixels. TVU shall automatically calculate the video height:

...

...

Similarly, this technique can also be used to set a fixed height and have TVU calculate the width.

But the fact is that most applications want to control when to start playing the audio, for instance, to synchronize it with other media.

Solution

To illustrate better how to play audio we will write a simple demo that plays the same audio in two different time instants and by using two different playing methods.
First we define the audio in a separate MML file. File audio.mml looks like this:

<MovieClip id="mc_aud">

</MovieClip>

Once the audio is defined, it may be used in any other MML file, just like a library item. In this example we have another MML file called main.mml whose contents are:

<MovieClip src="<FONT colo

Create Video with a Sequence of Images

Abstract: This can be done with the window.open() JavaScript function. This article, for example, shows how it can be done:
http://www.web-source.net/javascript_popup_window2.htm

Instead of opening the Flash movie in a new browser window, prepare an HTML page that displays the Flash movie in / tags. These tags allow you to set the width and height at which the Flash movie will display. You can find more details on how to create / tags in this Macromedia KB article:
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_4150

The above methods can be used to open both dynamic generated Flash movies, for example generated by ASP/PHP Turbine, as well as static .swf movies, for example generated by Turbine Video Encoder.

<TABLE class=article_text cellSpac

Remove "Your optional text here" Text Area

Abstract:

Introduction

Some video players display a text area with the text "Your optional text here". This code displays the Flash player where the video will play.
Select and copy this text, including the and tags.
Paste this portion of HTML code into the desired location of the HTML page where it should play. If using an HTML editor like DreamWeaver or FrontPage make sure you're pasting as/into HTML, not plain text (or the raw text for tags like will appear and it won't work).

Make sure the final HTML is in the same directory as the encoded video files (or see the related article below).

You can repeat the above operation any number of times to display several videos in the same HTML page. To avoid all videos to start playing at the same time, set the "Start Mode" property of the player to a setting other than "Play" - this is done in TVE on the Player tab, before encoding.

</TBODY

Better Quality Encoding

Abstract:

Introduction

Video encoding quality depends on the encoding bitrate as well as the characteristics of the source video: videos with a lot of action will always be harder to compress than still videos (at the same bitrate). However it's often possible to increase quality by changing some settings from the default values included in the base Presets.

Information

Better quality encoding can be obtained by changing a number of settings:

Increasing Bitrate in Video Tab and also in the Audio Tab naturally increases overall quality.
Lowering the video Frame Size and/or the Frame Rate in the Video tab: this will lower the amount of actual data compressed, allowing better quality for the same bitrate. In most cases source video quality might be overkill for web Flash video: for example lowering the Frame Rate from 30 FPS to 20 FPS and/or the Frame Size to 75% original size should produce better video quality at the same bitrate without significant quality loss.
Using VBR2 Video Encoding method (Video Tab) will usually produce better results (Video Tab). Or if bandwidth is not an issue, encoding at Constant Quality (KQ) with better quantizer settings will produce perfect results.
The period for Keyframes (complete frames) in the Video Tab might be too low, wasting bandwidth. This can be changed to larger numbers like 6, 8 or 10. The Flash player can only seek to Keyframes, so care should be taken in selecting this period.

If the video display interlace artifacts, enable D
